You have heard the story before.....retire to the country....sleep in every
day....dabble in the arts....read the Sunday paper on the porch..... pick
fresh berries from the organic garden.....can your own vegetables....make
your own bread......
We did this exactly but with too much gusto so now it reads...
......retire to the country.....get up at 5am.......dabble in too many projects
ranging from glass blowing to spinning to metal sculpture.....read the Sunday
paper on the porch on Wednesday.....share the berries from the 250 organic
blackberry and raspberry plants with the neighbors, fill the freezer and
sell at the local coop......gather 1000 used canning jars from the rest
of the neighbors who are downsizing and think we are nuts..... and still
make that bread but for special occasions. Its best to not even discuss
the year we had 200 tomato plants....Oh my!
It makes us shake our head and grin. We wouldn' trade it! 83 acres of rolling
hills, all organic with a babbling creek through the middle of it. Toss
in one child, 2 huge mules, 2 donkeys, 4 sheep, 4 goats, a llama, a cat
and a soon to arrive dog and you have FUN along with a fair amount of work. |
